The Call of Christmas

Many of us connect with the primal anticipation of Christmas. We know that something is about to happen. A lot of our memories revolve around gifts. As you think about what it means to get and give gifts, and remember the joy of the best gifts, imagine how the Father felt when He sent Jesus on Christmas. It's His joyous gift to You.
We all have aspirations. We either set goals for ourselves or long to imitate some image of success we have in our head that we saw look good on someone else. When we follow a star with the wrong expectations, it's easy to be disappointed. Sometimes we follow a star thinking it will lead us to a mansion, but often we end up in a stable. Truth is, more often than not, the stable is right where God wants us.
With apologies, we join today's message in progress... Joseph's dream is today's visit that precedes the arrival of our Savior. In God's timing, Joseph too gets a visit from an angel, this time in a dream. Joseph's dream challenges his honor, his pride, his love for Mary, and his faith... In his response, his faith "becomes"... it moves from concept to the here and now. Has your "dream" of faith moved into your everyday world?
Another day, another visit to another participant in the salvation of the world. A young girl this time. The visit foretold impossible things, and yet when the impossible is necessary, what other One would you count on to make it true? The obedience of this lovely young heart was at the very center of this plan for saving the world. Mary's life would be turned upside down as she obeyed and because she did, a child was born. Here's the thing... You were on God's mind that day.
Zechariah was no spring chicken and neither was his wife, Elizabeth. One thought... one hope had animated their hearts and souls throughout their life together, and now in his old age Zechariah meets his moment. Gabriel spoke and the air thundered. Events were foretold, and after his shaking abated, Zechariah set out to obey that which he had learned. Are you THAT prepared? Will you obey?
